over the years, the Samsung brand has become synonymous with innovative tech, introducing a slew of products equipped with cutting-edge technologies. This time around, the South Korean brand has introduced a new smartwatch to strengthen its current line-up of wearables, known as the Gear Sport. Most smartwatches today tend to be aimed at offering either a stylish design or functionality, but Samsung has done a good job combining both elements together with the Gear Sport. Below is a rundown of the smartwatch’s features:

Design and Build Quality
In terms of design, the Gear Sports smartwatch seems to have inherited the good looks of its predecessors. It comes in blue and black, which makes it easier to match your sports apparels with. Like many smartwatches on the market, the Gear Sport enables you to change its strap for different situations. For example, you can go for a silicone one when hitting the gym but switch to a leather one if you are going on a dinner date.

Build-wise, Samsung claims that the watch has military-grade durability which is important to ensure that it can withstand extreme weather conditions. It also comes with a 50-meter waterproof rating which is a plus point for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts out there. Apart from the touchscreen, the Gear Sport also provides a rotating bezel as well as buttons on the side for wearers to interact with the watch. This is a good move by Samsung as it allows for better interaction, especially when your hands are gloved or sweaty.

Display
Samsung products have always been known for their immersive displays; the Gear Sport is no different. It comes with a Super AMOLED 360 x 360p resolution display panel with 302ppi that provides excellent contrast and colours. The viewing angles are impressive as well. The screen offers sufficient brightness to remain legible at night as well as outdoors on a bright sunny day.

Internal Specs
Although the Gear Sport is equipped with the same internals as previous models, there is nothing to complain about. Samsung has settled for a 16Hz dual-core processor with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage for the Gear Sport. This combination of specs translates to a smooth performance overall as all the data are handled with ease.

Functions
Samsung has packed an impressive number of features into the Gear Sport. The smartwatch comes with NFC, GPS, an accelerometer, barometer, gyro, and an ambient light sensor. Although uncommon on smartwatches, the addition of NFC means that the watch can be used to pay for your purchases via Samsung Pay. Other functions include a heart rate monitor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, offline Spotify streaming, a wide array of health and fitness apps, and the usual smartwatch functions such as music control and notifications.

Battery Life
The Gear Sport is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery that can last up to three days on average usage. Keeping the GPS on will see the battery life drain significantly so do keep in mind to switch it off when you are not in need of it. The smartwatch also supports wireless charging, so you can just simply pop it onto the supplied charging port to recharge it.
